The BMFC (Bruce Clay) Update

represented... ummm... himself at the SEO panel yesterday. When providing a short description of who he was and what he did, he could have just said "I'm Bruce motherf**king Clay". That's pretty much what he said, but in about 12 words.

BMFC got hammered several times by the SEO panelists not named Vanessa "I'm White Hat" Fox. The ongoing joke was that BMFC's claim to fame was a 4 year old post on Silos.

Which, by the way, he did reference on his own early in the session. is crazy like that!

Highlights:

Michael Martinez asks the first question. A lot of people have found that supplemental pages don't come up. Is this the way that they'll be in the future, or will they be found in search results if there are links in the near future?
Matt: Both of these are true. If you get more links in supplemental results, they can get in the main index. We parse pages differently that are in the supplemental index (than in regular SERPs). That's what distinguishes the main index from the supplemental index; supplemental index pages are compressed more often. The phrase relationships are handled a bit differently. You shouldn't worry too much about how many pages you have in the supplemental index. I have hundreds of pages in there; that's fine.

Question: You're doing more and more to figure out where the user is to deliver

this quote was actually a surprise to me from the presenter:

she stood by that and I'm thinking it makes sense, but still surprising. What she defined as 'business purposes' might be up for debate. This might include the "I'm at joe's coffee house right now enjoying a latte", but if you look at people like say Danny Sullivan on twitter, you could say that all of his tweets are geared towards marketing himself, same goes for any SEO like tweeter.

Arrival at the W

So no sighting of BMFC yet, but I haven't made it to the conference yet. (Conf doesn't start until tomorrow).

But here's the intro video's to the Web 2.0 conference (scuse me...EXPO).

If you're going to stay anywhere for the Web 2.0 Expo, stay at the W. There's plenty of activity there and all the geeks go there to convene. Plus it's like living in a club!!! which is awesome for about 2 days.
